No Wave — жанр в музыке и перфоманс-сцене в Нью-Йорке, активно существовавший с конца 1970-х до начала 1980-х. Название No Wave подчёркивает отсутствие связей с какими-либо жанрами или стилями.

Содержание

Название

Существует несколько версий происхождения названия. По одной из них, Лидия Ланч из Teenage Jesus & the Jerks, отвечая на вопрос в интервью «является ли её музыка New Wave?», насмешливо ответила «скорей уж No Wave». По другой версии, термин впервые появился на страницах самиздатского журнала NO, который вёл хронику сцены.[1]

Музыка

Нельзя сказать, что No Wave — это стиль музыки с какими-то определёнными чертами. Но можно выделить некоторые общие черты музыки No Wave: резкие, атональные звуки; тенденция к насыщению музыкальной ткани через мелодию. Лирика в такой музыке основана на отрицании и конфронтации.

Хорошим примером жанра служит сборник No New York, составленный Брайаном Ино и включающий композиции таких коллективов, как Mars, Teenage Jesus & the Jerks, DNA и The Contortions.

No Wave нашел свое отражение и в кинематографе. В этом жанре работали Амос По, Джон Лури, Вивьен Дик, Скотт Би и Бет Би.

Влияние на современную музыку

No Wave оказал большое влияние на такие жанры, как нойз и индастриал, например Big Black, Lev Six, Helmet и Live Skull. Из среды No Wave вышла группа Sonic Youth.

NO WAVE в России

Не считая отдельных экспериментов,(во сновном со звучанием),некоторых команд, например (уже не существующая) московской группы ДК, данный музыкальный стиль не получил широкого распространения в нашей стране. Из современных Российских групп играющих в стиле no wave с большой натяжкой можно отнести московскую группу Petrov Vodkin и Контора Кука.
